Golf Solitaire: how a round works

Bring your attention to one round of Golf Solitaire. Remove all 35 tableau cards. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Seven columns of five, one stock pass. Free solo play, no wagering.

Bring this focus to a round

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Notice the feedback after each input.

The challenge in front of you

Remove all 35 tableau cards. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

A walkthrough of the rules

  1. Take an exposed bottom card one rank above or below the waste top, allowing ace–king wrapping.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Using the playing area

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

An example before you play

Waste queen accepts jack or king. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the controls nearby.

One detail worth checking

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
